Re-Vote, Not Recount, in Ohio

This is an interesting article about the situation in Ohio. Of particular interest is a section that explains how despite a seriously robust get-out-the-vote campaign and stories of long lines and waits to vote, much like everywhere else in Ohio, the turnout there came out actually 4.51% LOWER than it was in 2000--even though other similarly democratic counties with the same anecdotal evidence showed up 13% HIGHER.

BuzzFlash > Contributor > Re-Vote, Not Recount, in Ohio

<-snip->
"All of these facts together suggest that Franklin and Mahoning Counties actually had much higher turnout than was reported. I believe that a large number of Franklin and Mahoning County votes were "lost" by the touch screen machines."

Another interesting section is on Warren County, where the votes were apparently counted by Republican leadership in secret because there was a "level 10 (out of 10)" terrorism threat which was denied by Homeland Security and the FBI.

I think it's obvious that point no.1 for the next time around is we HAVE to change the way votes are counted in this country and it has to be voter-verifiable. There has to be some way to know that your vote actually counted the way it was meant to. Then there would at least be a way to know if there was a problem.

Wikipedia article

Wikipedia has a relatively good ongoing article summarizing what's going on:

2004 U.S. presidential election controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's not over yet in Volusia County or Florida for that matter

Things are still crazy in Florida. There is a lawsuit challenging the election in Volusia County. Groups are auditing other counties as well:

2004 Collected Vote Fraud Stories

The sheer number of malfunctions and errors is just enough to make you gag:

It's really crazy how many stories there are.

UC Berkeley Research

UC Berkeley Research Team: "Someone Must Investigate and Explain These Anomalies"

There have been a number of articles now related to UC Berkeley's research on the 2004 election in Florida, suggesting that hundreds of thousands of votes went to Bush incorrectly in e-voting counties.

From this page you can actually read the report/paper/summary of findings by clicking on the link under "voting".

This is quite interesting news, and interestingly it seems to be attracting rather little attention, even though 130,000-260,000 votes being wrong seems like quite a big story. Hello?

EFF: E-voting Petition

EFF has put together a call for independent testing of e-voting machines. Don't let anybody sweep these problems under the rug! It's crazy that we have no public oversight of the machines that millions of people are using to vote.

EFF: E-voting Petition

Now it really gets interesting

Okay, now we're really seeing some crazy stuff happen as people try to cover their tracks. Black Box Voting has managed to secure a lockdown in Volusia County, Florida. Check it out!

UPDATE: Thom Hartmann reports on this situation, with a little more information.

Here is an article in the Daytona Beach News on this.

There are actually quite a few articles now on BBV in the news: As you can see here.

Fraud audits

A number of fraud audits is now taking place because of the efforts of Black Box Voting. In particular, Bev Harris and her gang are patrolling Florida, intent on exposing fraud if it in fact exists, but there are also fraud audits taking place in Ohio, New Mexico, Georgia, and Nevada.

Cerainly if vote fraud is at hand, it should be uncovered, and we should be proud of this organization for at least attempting to reveal the truth, whatever that may be.

Election result maps

"Election results by state"

There are some weird election maps at this site. They basically show that, the map doesn't look quite as red if you look at population and margin of victory more closely. Posted by Hello

Ohio recount redux

Good news -- the Greens have enough money to demand a recount in Ohio. The hope is that, at the very least, any fraud will be uncovered and we can know for sure what happened in Ohio, which of course may or may not happen, but at least SOMETHING is happening, what with all the crazy things being said about this election, people aren't just sitting around doing nothing.

Unexplained exit polls

The discrepancies between exit poll data and "actual" results were so vast in some states that the entire process must be called into question. These polls should not have been as "off" as they were. Steven Freeman, statistics professor at the University of Pennsylvania, offers an analysis of Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania data:

IPac - A PAC for balanced intellectual property policy

I am a member of iPac, which seeks to restore the traditional balance of copyright between copyright holders and the public. It's pretty small at the moment, but they helped out 6 candidates in the last election and 5 of them won (admittedly the 5 were incumbents whereas the 6th was Brad Carson, U.S. Senate candidate from Oklahoma, who (apparently) lost.
